About the Event

This  is a developmental skills course focused on the practical use of defensive firearms in a law enforcement context and a qualification event to meet the State of Ohio requirements for the annual qualification of police officers in the use of their firearms.

PRE-REQUISITES: Currently active as a Peace Officer in the State of Ohio or a retired officer wishing to qualify for the purposes of LEOSA.

Points of Instruction (POI) Include:

  • Firearm & equipment inspection
  • Proper firearm manipulation, loading & unloading (reviewed)
  • Drawing from the open duty holster or concealed holster as appropriate (reviewed)
  • Deployment from ready and carry positions (reviewed)
  • Rapid or emergency reloading of the firearm (reviewed)
  • Immediate & Remedial Action for malfunction clearance (reviewed)
  • Practical pistol accuracy standards will be applied
  • OPOTC Approved Pistol Qualification Course of Fire (80% or better score required to pass)
  • Use of intermediate barries and alrenative firing positions (reviewed time permitting)
  • Qualification for additional platforms such as the Shotgun or Tactical Rifle (this is optional and will occur after the pistol block)

Equipment Required:

  • Modern duty pistol or revolver with duty belt & holster, 3 magazines / 2 speed loaders, and belt pouch
  • Modern off-duty or secondary pistol or revolver with concealment holster (OWB, IWB, AIWB, Ankle, etc), 2 magazines or 1 speed loader / strip.
  • Factory produced training ammunition matching your firearm's caliber - 150 rds pistol (25 rds for qualification), SGN & rifle ammo as needed
  • Hand Held Tactical Flashlight with belt pouch or pocket clip
  • Eye protection (safety glasses or polycarbonate lenses in perscription eyeware)
  • Ear protection (electronic shooting ear muffs highly suggested)
  • Seasonally appropriate clothing suitable for range activities (body armor optional)
  • Closed toe shoes or boots suitable for outdoor activities
  • A baseball style cap or visor to help protect your face
  • Water, sports drinks, & snacks to maintain yourself during moderate physical activity for the training day
  • Please note that the range facility does not have running water or improved facilities
