This is an intermediate skills course and a great next step after completing our Defensive Carbine Foundational Skills course. Expect skill development in the areas of manipulation, marksmanship, utilization, and critical decision making while deploying the defensive carbine.

About the Event

This  is a developmental skills course focused on the practical use of the  defensive carbine.    It is a great course to continue your training  progression and will provide an opportunity to learn new skills while  improving upon your existing skill set.  The material will be presented  in a crawl, walk, run manner and in an easy to understand building block  approach.


PREREQUISITES: Successful completion of our Defensive Carbine Foundational Skills block of instruction or a waiver of this requirement after a  review of your prior training and experience.


Points of Instruction (POI) Include:

  • Proper firearm manipulation

  • Proper use of the 2 point tactical sling

  • Deployment from ready and carry positions

  • Speed & tactical reloading of the carbine

  • Marksmanship development with enhanced accuracy standards

  • Critical decision making in the context of a practical firearm application

  • Specific developmental focus dependent upon the student's current skill level

  • Immediate and Remedial Action for malfunction clearance (time permitting)

  • Practical movement, use of cover, and shooting while moving (time permitting)

Equipment Required:

  • Modern defensive carbine (AR-15 MSR platform preferred) with 2 point sling and WML

  • Optical sighting systems such as a red dot sight (RDS) or low powered variable optic (LPVO) are preferred

  • Iron sights or back up iron sights will be used if present and are highly suggested

  • 5 full capacity magazines and a load bearing equipment (LBE) to carry 2+ magazines

  • Weapon mounted light with "constant on" capability (500 lumen minimum with 1000-1500 suggested)

  • Modern defensive pistol or revolver with OWB retention holster

  • 3 magazines / 2 revolver speed loaders and a belt pouch to carry 2 speed reloads

  • Factory produced training ammunition matching your firearm's caliber (50+ rds pistol & 300+ rds rifle)

  • 500+ lumen hand held flashlight with belt pouch or pocket clip

  • Eye protection (safety glasses or poly carbonate lenses in prescription eye ware)

  • Ear protection (electronic shooting ear muffs highly suggested)

  • Seasonally appropriate clothing suitable for outdoor activities (no low scooped neck shirts or tops)

  • Closed toe shoes or boots suitable for outdoor activities

  • A baseball style cap or visor to help protect your face

  • Water, sports drinks, & snacks to maintain yourself during moderate physical activity for the training day

  • Please note that the range facility does not have running water or improved facilities
