About the Event

This is an intermediate to advanced skills course focused on the practical use of the defensive carbine and pistol during low light and no light engagements.  We will cover the practical use of lighting required for proper target and threat I.D. as well as the integration of the low light equipment and techniques into your existing skill set.  There will be a low light lecture focusing on equipment options, selection criteria, and proper use of weapon mounted and hand held tactical lights.  Loaner equipment is available upon request.  This may be your first opportunity to train during low light / no light conditions so please let us help you prior to class so that you have a safe and successful learning opportunity.

** If you have night vision gear you will be given an opportunity to train with it time permitting. **

PRE-REQUISITES: Successful completion of our Defensive Pistol & Carbine Foundational Skill blocks of instruction or a waiver of this requirement after a review of your prior training and experience.

Points of Instruction (POI) Include:

  • Proper firearm (rifle & pistol) manipulation with limited visibility
  • Proper weapon mounted light (WML) operation (rifle & pistol)
  • Proper hand held light operation for defensive pistol applications
  • Use of lighting techniques for searching and defensive pistol applications
  • Deployment from ready and carry positions in a low light / no light context
  • Rapid reloading of the rifle & pistol with limited visibility
  • Marksmanship development with enhanced accuracy standards
  • Critical decision making in the context of a practical firearm application
  • Specific developmental focus dependant upon the student's current skill level
  • Immediate and Remedial Action for malfunction clearance in a low light / no light context (time permitting)

Equipment Required:

  • Modern Sporting Rifle (AR15 platform preferred) with a 2 point sling required
  • 500+ lumen rifle mounted light required (Surefire, Modlite, Cloud Defensive, Streamlight recommended)
  • Modern defensive medium to full sized pistol or revolver with OWB, IWB, or AIWB holster required
  • 500+ lumen pistol mounted light optional but highly suggested (Surefire, Streamlight, Modlite recommended)
  • 3-5 rifle magazines / 2 pistol reloads and load bearing equipment (LBE) or plate carrier (PC) to carry everthing
  • Factory produced training ammunition matching your firearm's caliber (200+ rds rifle & 50+ rds pistol)
  • Hand Held Tactical Flashlight with belt pouch or pocket clip required (easy one hand access)
  • Eye protection (safety glasses or polycarbonate lenses in perscription eyeware) **Clear Lenses for night shooting**
  • Ear protection for shooting (electronic shooting ear muffs highly suggested)
  • Chemlite or other light for P.I.D and a piece of 550 cord to hang this from your belt or kit (required)
  • Seasonally appropriate clothing suitable for outdoor activities (no low scooped neck shirts or tops)
  • Closed toe shoes or boots suitable for outdoor activities
  • A baseball style cap or visor to help protect your face
  • Water, sports drinks, & snacks to maintain yourself during moderate physical activity for the training day
  • Please note that the range facility does not have running water or improved facilities
